OnGlorifying God
for 125 Years

For 125 years, members of First Presbyterian Church of Wichita Falls have congregated to worship God and to carry out the Great Commission beyond the church walls.  Starting from a small gathering on October 21, 1882, in the home of Colonel L. T. Miller, First Presbyterian has grown to the vibrant, involved community of believers we know today.

125 years!  What a great reason to celebrate – and also to rededicate ourselves to the great precepts we often take for granted.

The official celebration will take place on October 21.  One service that day at 11:00 a.m. will unite us in spirit and will be a reflection of our diverse congregation today as well as the great cloud of witnesses that has gone before.  Everyone is invited to attend the celebration luncheon immediately afterward, completely free and with commemorative mementos to take home.

Why not involve yourself by thinking of 125 ways to glorify Him?  Maybe it will be private, something we all join together to do or both.    Perhaps we can provide 125 volunteer hours on some community project like Faith Mission, give 125 pounds of food to the Food Bank or give a special mission gift of both time and money.  If you have any great ideas, please share them with us.

Of course the celebration on October 21 will overflow into the archives, and our wealth of history will be on display.  No one is left who remembers the day that Colonel Miller invited fellow citizens to his home to establish First Presbyterian Church.   Nevertheless, we have significant memorabilia from the entire 125 years lovingly preserved.  Even with a quick glance, it is evident that our good Presbyterians have been great leaders throughout the history of Wichita Falls, both having origins at almost the same instant.

So let us come together to celebrate this fine occasion, even while asking what God is leading us to do for His glory in the future.
